What is digital marketing?

Digital Marketing has the power to connect with customers in a way that no other form of marketing can do. We help companies get new leads by offering them valuable content which they can convert into sales. A marketer needs to understand where their target audience hangs out.

For instance, let’s say you want to send your message to millennials or Generation Y users who are born between 1980 and 2000 and would like to spend some time with an online magazine company through social media ads. It seems odd to think about sending a post to one demographic and not to another, but it does, especially for a brand.

What type of audiences is digital marketing targeting?

For each particular demographic, we need to find out what activities they perform. For example, if they prefer to visit websites on average once every 2 weeks or so, we could target these people and create promotions and ads that correspond to those activities. It may be wise to avoid posting sponsored posts or ads unless people are really looking for something specific.

As a rule of thumb, here is how to reach different groups of individuals and make some good use of YouTube. To start with, go to this video:

If you see below, take note.

The best part is that everything comes to an end. If you click on anything else about the product or process, it won’t appear. Once you have completed reading, you can take another look. The more you find the information you need, the better at it you become.

Now, since these advertisements will probably follow our lead, then it should not be too much trouble to link this channel to your website right now. You can publish a Google AdWords campaign and see what works. I would recommend using social media platforms that offer social advertising.

This is also where things get tricky. Do not just copy any advertisement:

Here is a great place to do this, check out this video:

You may even consider doing targeted adverts on different sites and try to keep a list of all your traffic sources. This will allow you to spot adverts that appear most often on your site. There are plenty of tools available, such as SEMrush, which allows you to check your site’s SEO and Google search rankings.

Websites like Ahrefs and Moz. co will give you data on keywords that are relevant to your business. This can be done by linking to the keyword you wish to rank for in Google by going to the ‘Audience’ tab on the result page and clicking on ‘Targeted Ads’. In this case, we would want to target the phrase ‘digital marketing services, and after searching on Google, my keyword would be ‘digital marketing agencies for small businesses.

Once you have chosen your topic and selected keywords to write about, the next step is to figure out what tools will work best. Here is a guide on finding the right technology to write on Medium or WordPress.

Your blog will be something you can promote yourself and create content for you. However, don’t ignore others. Use Google Analytics to see what kind of articles your readers are engaging with. Take notes on what kinds of words your audience uses. Look at previous successful articles that are related to what you write. Search for people that share similar topics:

As always, remember to use keywords, and not to replace them for the sake of making your article look longer. Make sure you are writing interesting content that is worth reading, otherwise, nobody will read it.

One final thing before you begin is that there are two main types of SEO strategies. Mainstream and niche:

With mainstream SEO, you try to cover a wide range of topics and focus on topics that people search for frequently. With local SEO, you write about a niche and optimize your content to serve your specific area. So, instead of trying to cover lots of areas, you write about one particular region or segment and try to meet your customers’ expectations.

Which type of strategy is the better choice depends on a few factors. First, if you don’t know much about marketing and digital advertising, then you might want to stick to mainstream strategies unless you feel like investing in different SEO strategies. Second, once you’ve decided on a keyword, research your competitors and copycats to show off what type of strategy they are promoting. Third, if you are writing for a large publication, you can also choose the traditional method with the addition of headlines and tags, and keywords. That’s a bit harder, though. But it’ll pay off later on when you want to attract more readers. Or to make sure that people continue reading your pieces.
